Are you living in the city and looking for a faster way to get to work, instead of taking public transportation? Or, are you looking to enjoy trails and parks without walking or riding a bike?

Electric scooters for adults have been getting increasingly popular in the past few years, as they offer a reliable form of transportation, especially when living in urban areas. Plus, these portable motor vehicles are convenient to store in small spaces, and riding them is a lot of fun.

So, if you’re thinking of getting an electric scooter, but aren’t sure what to look for when shopping for one, let’s take a closer look at if you’re thinking of getting an electric scooter, but aren’t sure what to look for when shopping for one, let’s take a closer look at some reasons why you should get anelectric scooter (or e-scooter), what to look for when buying one, and some suggestions on how to choose the best Segway scooter for your riding needs.

Reasons Adults Are Getting E-Scooters

No doubt you’ve seen kids and adults zipping through the park with them, and you’ve been wondering if you should get an e-scooter for yourself. You should! Here are some reasons why electric scooters for adults are a great investment.

Saves Time

Electric scooters for adults living and working in big cities are great time-savers when it comes to commuting to work. If you currently walk, take public transportation, or drive to work and find yourself arriving late, an e-scooter can cut down your travel time.

What’s more, if you decide to ride an e-scooter to work instead of driving, you can save time on looking for a parking spot and then walking a few minutes to work. With an e-scooter, you can just slip it into a bike rack near your job or fold and place it underneath your desk.

Portability

With a combination of being lightweight and average-sized, electric scooters for adults  are extremely portable, and you can pretty much store them anywhere. If you live in a condo or apartment, you can store an e-scooter in your closet or under your bed.

If you get tired riding it, you can carry it on public transportation and slide it under the seat. Plus, you can store them in the trunk of your car if you want to take off for the weekend and head to the cottage to check out some nature trails.

Saves Money

If you own a car and want to give it a rest, the upside of owning an electric scooter is that you can save money on car maintenance and gas. Many e-scooter owners alternate their commute to work by driving their car in the winter and then switch to riding their electric scooter during the spring and summer seasons.

Factors to Consider Before Buying an E-Scooter

When deciding which e-scooter to purchase, you need to factor in your personal circumstances and the main use of the electric scooter. Since electric scooters are available in a wide range of models and prices, we’ll discuss what you should look for before deciding to buy an e-scooter.

Motor Power

The first thing to look for in an e-scooter is motor power. You want to get the most efficient running model and, often, e-scooter owners are surprised at how fast these small motorized vehicles can be.

Manufacturers usually make e-scooters with brushless DC motors connected to the wheels. Check to see if the e-scooter has a single or dual-motor design. Single-motor models are usually attached in lighter units.

E-scooters with dual motors are heavier units and are generally faster and more powerful than single-motor models. If you have a bigger budget and superior speed is what you’re after, then we suggest getting a dual-motor e-scooter.

Second, manufacturers list electric scooters for adults by watts. The minimum motor power starts at 200 to 250 watts. If you’re planning to climb big hills with your electric scooter, you should consider models with 400 to 500 watts or more. The fastest dual-motor e-scooters are made with 1,000 watts or more.

Range

The range of an e-scooter is measured by the maximum distance it can travel on flat ground before the battery runs out of power. If you’re planning to ride your e-scooter at long distances, you should opt for a higher range.

Maximum Speed

The majority of electric scooters for adults start at 15 km/h, and the higher-end models can reach up to 40 km/h. If your typical rider usage will involve city riding where there will be a lot of people and stopping-and-going, then going 15 km/h should suffice.

You might think that getting the fastest model will last you longer, but travelling at high speeds of 40 km/h increases your chances of falling off. So, tread carefully if you decide to go with the fastest e-scooter on the market.

Braking System

Similar to looking for a car or bike, you should consider the braking system on the electric scooter you’re interested in. Generally, e-scooters come with the following four types of brakes: drum, disc, foot, and electric.

We recommend disc brakes, as they offer the most effective stopping power due to the metal disk connected to the tire. When braking, you just need to press the hand lever on the handlebars and the e-scooter comes to a complete stop.

The Best Segway Scooters to Choose From

Electric scooters for adults come in portable designs that are packed with safety features to ensure adults can ride to and from their destinations without incident. Which e-scooter works for you, though? The following three models are the best on the market, and offer reliability and smooth operation for beginners to more advanced riders.

Segway Ninebot Max G30LP

If you’re shopping for your first e-scooter, the SegwFay Ninebot Max G30LP is a great choice as it’s beginner friendly and built with great power. Riders have claimed that it provides a smooth ride at top speed and has superb acceleration and efficient braking.

If you’re looking to ride short distances to and from work, this model is a light e-scooter model and is thus ideal for shorter distances with a lower range.

Segway Ninebot Max G30P

As we said earlier, the Segway Ninebot Max G30LP is a light e-scooter for going short distances. However, if you’re planning to ride farther distances and don’t mind a slightly heavier and larger model, then we recommend getting the Segway Ninebot Max G30P.

What is the Ninebot Max G30P best for? Since this model is bigger than the Ninebot Max G30LP model, this e-scooter is best for commuting to work along with recreational use like riding through park trails with steeper inclines.
